George Milton Smith collection, 1901-1947 (inclusive), 1939-1945 (bulk).

This collection consists of bound volumes of Dr. Smith's reprints and of bound scrapbooks that are representative of his chief interests: ichthyology, cancer research, industrial medicine, and military medical preparedness. One set of scrapbooks concerns his work on the National Advisory Cancer Council of the National Cancer Institute from 1939 to 1945. Other scrapbooks concern the work of the Connecticut War Council during World War II and deal specifically with disaster preparedness, military medicine, and evacuation. Of particular note are personal narratives, contained within scrapbooks, of his experiences during both the World Wars and of the emergency measures concerning the Hartford Circus Fire in 1944. The scrapbooks for World War I contain original art by André Smith while others contain photographs and various types of ephemera. There is also a short account of Smith's participation in the Yale University Swim Team.
